Calcite pellets in Dutch agriculture

Winter is coming to an end and the growing season is again in sight. To get the soil in good condition many fields and even pastures are being limed. Since the lime needs time to do its work, it is applied around two to three months in advance. Softening lime from drinking water production processes is perfectly suited for this application. It is also circular: we put back into the ground what we have taken from it!

This year, for the first time, calcite pellets are being delivered to the agricultural sector via Agrifirm. The company is a leading supplier of (lime) fertilisers and has years of accumulated experience and knowledge. This makes Agrifirm an important link between the water sector and farmers. This year will see a substantial volume delivered via this route.

The undertaking with Agrifirm came about in close collaboration with Vitens. The (soil) research and past experience of both Vitens and AquaMinerals provided an important scientific foundation for the functionality and added value of calcite pellets as a lime fertiliser in agriculture. All the parties involved have full confidence in this sustainable collaboration.
